TESCO is looking to buy up council land in Walton in a bid to improve access to its proposed superstore site.

The retail giant has been given planning permission to build a store, petrol station and car park at the front of the Martello Caravan Park site.

A bid has now been launched by Tesco to buy up parts of Kirby Road and Mill Lane.

The land, which adds up to 1.2 hectares, is currently owned by Tendring Council.

Developers say the existing access to the site is unsuitable and the land is needed to improve access and make development possible.

The council has negotiated a deal to sell the land to Tesco.

A decision will be made on whether to rubber stamp the deal at a cabinet meeting on Friday May 17.
