TESCO has admitted it will be years before a new superstore is built in Walton.

The retail giant was handed planning permission for the controversial development by Tendring Council six months ago.

Councillors gave the green light for a superstore, petrol station and car park to be built at the front of the Martello Caravan Park site.

But no work has taken place and Tesco bosses cannot give a timeframe.

A spokesman said: “We would like to reassure everyone that we remain firmly committed to bringing a store to Walton. “We don’t have any firm timescales at present but it is likely to be a few years away."
