Post Office staff set for Easter strike

Post Office in North Hill, Colchester. Post Office in North Hill, Colchester.

POST Office staff are set to go on strike at two branches in north Essex.

Members of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) have voted to take industrial action on Easter Saturday.

The action is part of a dispute against Post Office plans to close or franchise 76 Crown offices, to protect jobs and services, and secure a pay rise for staff who have had no rise since April 2011.

A Post Office spokesman said it did not yet know what the impact would be as it would depend on the number of people taking part.

Only Crown branches - not franchises - will be affected, and branches in North Hill, Colchester, and High Street, Clacton, could be affected by the strike. Neither are listed for closure or franchising.

Join the club, I haven't had a pay rise since 2010, but I don't go out on strike over it, I just realise how lucky I am to have a job !!!

Not sure why they want to make cutbacks when they charge 60p per stamp now, about time Royal Mail had a bit of competition then maybe they would improve their service

Sack the lot!! Plenty of out-of-work people around who would jump at the chance of a job.

That! is a typical tory comment, even if you do not vote for them.Workers still have rights and sometimes have to fight for them. This lot are trimming the The Post Office to sell it off before they get voted out, wait and see how the workers are treated then!

Get your facts right its the Post Office not Royal Mail who are going on strike, they are two different companies.
