Gritters cover the distance of seven world trips

GRITTING lorries have travelled the equivalent of seven times around the world while covering Essex this winter.
Essex County Council has revealed its highways team has spread around 26,000 tonnes of salt so far - the same weight as 126 blue whales.
Salt is spread around the 1,9000 mile strategic network everytime the temperature is forecast to drop to freezing.
The department’s attention is now primarily focused on repairing potholes left by the severe temperatures and wet weather.
