Food bank service to slash deprivation in Walton

Food bank service to slash deprivation in Walton Food bank service to slash deprivation in Walton

A VITAL food bank service will be set up to provide for needy people in Walton.

Organiser Jane Robinson, of Walton Road, has been working on the scheme for several weeks.

The food bank will act as an emergency supply which can be distributed those who are struggling to buy food themselves.

Jane said: “There are large pockets of people in Walton who are struggling and in dire need of help.

“This would be an enormous help to a lot of people and really boost our community."

Jane has started collecting food to build up the stock.

She has been offered a storage space at Walton Community Centre and will run the project from there.

Suitable candidates for help from the food bank will be referred to organisers through official channels, such as the police and social services.

Anyone interested in helping or with ideas to boost the scheme should email Jane at jane.robinson2007@gmail.com.

well done you jane robinson.
as there are pockets of deprivation in most towns these days, your scheme must be a lifesaver for some.

Briton 2013. Time to stop all overseas aid until we are able to look after our own people.

So the drug and alcohol addicts will be able to spend more on their fixes,
and less on food now.

@jayceylacey How about showing a bit of basic humanity in your poor deluded life. there are lots of families and single people around here struggling to provide for themselves and their families on basic wages with 16 hour work weeks, excessive rents, high food and fuel prices. Why shouldn't we help our most deprived? As for the drug and alcohol addicts some of those try their best to recover but it is people like you who give no one a chance. Addiction is a nasty affliction and anyone is susceptible to it in one way or another. But it is about those who are facing great difficulties and are soften too proud to seek out help that these things are for.

Well said cavillas.
jaceylacey might also have gone on to mention tatoos, but constraint dictated otherwise.
Opportunity and choice - a rule of economics to do with spending.
Lack of opportunity (no job, no money, no future) and choice (what is there to do here for the poor in Walton).
This woman is doing something creditable and fulfilling a need.
She is to be applauded.
Unlike the Great and the so called Good who run this town, it looks as if here is someone who is doing something for others rather than herself.
For those who are interested check out Tendring Council`s deprivation statistics - Walton wins hands down on early death rates and just 5 minutes from Frinton. Shame on you councillors that on your watch it comes down to food banks. Food kitchens next?
Well done Jane Robinson.

Well said powerpack. Never a truer word spoken. The "great and the good" should look to their hearts and souls and realize what this place needs is real regeneration and not the past ideals of lots of shops that create few and low paying jobs.
