Planning inquiry set for traveller's bid for 20-pitch site

A THREE-day public inquiry will take place into a traveller’s controversial plans for a caravan site in Weeley.

Tom Doran, of Gutteridge Hall Lane, wants to create a 20-pitch holiday site behind the derelict Starena Lodge in Clacton Road.

The inquiry will take place after Mr Doran appealed against Tendring Council’s planning committee’s decision to reject the application.

A hearing into the decision in October was branded as a “farce” after it was abandoned as there were not enough chairs for the public to sit on.

More than 100 people turned up for the hearing at Weeley Council Chamber, which only has a capacity of 80 people.

Planning inspector Lloyd Rodgers adjourned the informal one-day hearing in favour of a formal planning inquiry due to the number of people interested in the application.

It will now take place at the more capacious Clacton Town Hall, starting on March 13 at 10am.
