Brightlingsea: Sue set to run marathon to raise cash for injured pooch Mia
11:00am Monday 4th March 2013 in News
A WOMAN who took on a rescue dog with horrific injuries following a car crash is running a half marathon to pay for its final operation.
Sue Mason, 42, of Hurst Green in Brightlingsea, spotted four year-old pooch Mia on a website and decided to take her in.
Mia is originally from Romania, where she was hit by a car in 2010.
She suffered serious injuries and had to endure extensive operations to save her life, before a foster family brought her over to England to complete her treatment.
Sue went to visit her last year and agreed to give her a permanent home.
She said: “Mia was living on the streets in Romania when she was involved in the accident.
“Afterwards she was left severely injured by the roadside and no one came to help her.
“Help didn’t arrive until the wound on her face became infected and people started to complain about the smell."
Sue brought her home in October, but vets have now established that she will need a final operation to remove her ear canal.
The operation will cost more than £1,000, and Sue will run the Lowestoft Half Marathon on March 24 to help raise the cash.
She added: “I haven’t run for a long time but I decided to do the marathon to make the operation possible.
“I’m anxious because I’ve got such a short period of time to train, but I want to do everything I can to help Mia.”
