Teenager Abbie shaves head for charity
A TEENAGE girl from Clacton has shed her hair for charity in a sponsored head-shave.
Abbie Mills, 17, had her head shaved in front of hundreds of cheering onlookers at Clacton Factory Outlet on Saturday.
The teenager lost her dark locks for Wings of Hope, a charity which raises cash to fund education in third world countries.
Abbie, who worked with a team of fellow Tendring Technology College pupils to set the event up, says she is getting used to the hairless feel.
She said: “It went really well and we raised more than £400, so we were really happy with that.
“It was amazing, and such a great experience for everybody there and I felt a sense of attachment to everybody who came.”
Abbie had her head shaved as the centrepiece of a fundraising day at Clacton Factory Outlet.
Cash was also raised through face painting and leg waxing on the day.
Abbie added: “Leg waxing doesn’t have quite the same impact for girls so I thought I’d do something to catch people’s attention.
“I’m starting to get used to it now. Everyone has been so supportive.
“I feel like I’ve stolen the spotlight a bit, but a team of us were responsible for this and we’re all really proud of how it went.”
