CHARITABLE members of Clacton Lions have handed more than £8,000 to good causes and groups in the town.
The cash was raised from the Lions’ Christmas collections and the proceeds of the popular annual quiz sheet.
A special presentation was held at Imperial House, in Rosemary Road.
A cheque for £1,200 was handed to the 1st Clacton Guides, who helped the Lions with the house-to-house collections.
Smaller donations were made to charities chosen by The Range, Tesco and Morrison's, at Little Clacton, where most of the collections took place.
A cheque for £2,000 was given to Essex Air Ambulance and another £2,000 to Help For Heroes.
Lions spokesman Adrian Robinson said: “A cheque for £1,500 was presented to Diana Turner of the St Helena Hospice Tendring Day Centre and that donation will be used to fund a new carpet for the main patient sitting area."
Lions district governor Jim Cawte presented past president Terry Lilley with an excellence award and commemorative patch for the branch's achievements over the past year.
Mr Lilley also received an award for attracting new members to the club and its Brightlingsea Branch
