TENDRING’S bright sparks have recycled more electrical goods than any other district in the county.

Residents in the district topped a countywide event aimed at encouraging people to recycle more unwanted electrical items.

After all the recycled items from around Essex were weighed, it was found Tendring topped the table with more than 800kg of goods.

The initiative, which took place at the Tesco Car Park at Brook Retail Park in Clacton, included the collection of 337kg of televisions.

Council leader Peter Halliday: “Although this was not a competition it is good to see Tendring residents taking the event very seriously and doing their bit for the environment.

“While this was a one-off I hope that people will continue to recycle throughout the year and help significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill.”

The initiative was held after Essex County Council joined forces with five city, borough and district councils.

Rochford collected 678.5kg of items, Chelmsford collected 619.5kg, Colchester managed 500.5kg and Maldon 483kg.
