Top cop for Essex formally appointed (From Clacton and Frinton Gazette)

Wow, thanks for letting us know although I personally would have appreciated a bit more info on his background (big cases/controversies etc... ) or a bit more on what he is hoping to achieve in news role such as his ideas on policy.

That information was in the last story when he was named. (Last week)
This story is only saying that the appointment has ben confirmed

His job is only going to get harder when we open our doors next year and let in another load of scroungers in to fleece the system and rob us, could this cop change it i doubt it,thanks Europe,,,,

Let's hope he sorts out the shower that we have at the moment and gets them out of their warm cars and on the beat to clean up our streets, especially the town centre at night. I saw two beggars last Saturday in town. There is no need for anybody in this country to be sleeping in shop doorways either. Sort it out Top Cop because I for one am fed up with the poor policing in Colchester. 7000 unsolved crimes to take a look at.

The reason there are no police around is down to not enough money in the pot to recruit you need to ask the government when their policy is going to change so more money will become available to have more police.

Homeless people are the government's problem, not the police.

They are my problem when they embarrass me when taking people around our town. There are laws against vagrancy. Plus the police now go around in pairs, thus halving the effect. What's all that about?

Let's hope he develops a good professional relationship with our new Police and Crime Commissioner. The Commissioner has to be effective in lobbying the Home Office for more resources to expand the size of the force. I wish them both well.

Do you lot really think someone would choose to sleep rough in this weather if they had a choice , get ya heads out the sand the government's new housing regs are casing more and more single men to be left with no option but to sleep rough, or in many cases commit suicide.

It's about safety. They do a dangerous job that often need two or more to resolve.
The problem is there are not enough due to cuts in funding.
And your previous comment about getting them out of the cars... I suppose you would be happy if you called in an emergency if they took 40 minutes to arrive because they were walking rather than 6 or 7 minutes in their lovely warm car

It's also about quality of evidence. Since people are less inclined these days to believe the evidence of a police officer (largely their own fault but a symptom of the unbalanced burden of proof and the pressure it has put on police to 'bend the rules') it helps if they have another officer to corroborate. Obviously open to corrupt practice but less so than relying on the evidence of a single officer. We're all human after all. It's just that some are more human than others.

Jess, alias Sdapeze, is again barking up the wrong tree. Does he really think there is no need for anyone to sleep in shop doorways? Has he ever been homeless? Has he tried going to the night shelter and being told there are no vacancies?
Why does he feel embarrassed? I used to admire him for showing tourists round town but it seems he wants to show them an unreal Colchester, to tell them a lie in other words.
Wake up, Jess, the reason for homeless people begging in the street is that the government has been cutting down on benefits and is failing to build council houses for rent. We all need to pay more taxes so that we can restore the compassionate society which was destroyed in the years following 1979.

It would help if they told the truth about crime, that it is increasing and pretty close to being out of control due in part to judges sending villains home instead of to prison. All I seem to have read about in this paper over the last 5 years is robbery, burglary, assaults, muggings, and the occasional press release from the Chief Constable about how crime is dropping and everything in the garden is rosy.
Try a different tactic, tell parliament that the villains are winning. You never know, they might give you some more resources. Someone has to be first, why not you?
