Villagers urged to prepare for flooding

CONCERNED residents in Thorrington and Frating are being urged to be prepared following an increase in flooding.

Ward councillor Fred Nicholls questioned Tendring Council environment boss Nick Turner after a number of residents were affected by flooding last year.

He asked what the council was doing to help those in villages who were distressed by the “increasingly common” problem.

Mr Turner said: “There has been an increase in flooding across the district following high levels of rainfall.

“The council has brought together relevant agencies to ensure Tendring residents get the advice and support they need.”

He advised residents in the worst affected areas and those near streams, rivers or ditches, to read the Environment Agency’s Living on the Edge guide.

They are also advised to sign up to the agency’s flood alert system.
