Digital pens could be new weapon in police arsenal

COPS in Tendring could get hi-tech digital pens which could revolutionise the way they take statements.

Essex Police are looking at trials in Northern Ireland where digital pens automatically upload statements to computers rather than having to type them up later.

The technology is expected to achieve an 80 per cent efficiency saving so officers spend less time on paperwork and more on the beat.

An Essex Police spokesman said they were watching the scheme "with interest" but had no immediate plans to introduce the pens.
