COUNCILLORS will continue their fight against the closure of a path in Walton.
Labelled Byway 45, it links Mill Lane and the Town Hard area.
It has been blocked off with a gate by the owners of Halls Boatyard in a bid to increase security.
But residents protested, saying it has been used for decades as a public right of way.
Frinton and Walton Town Council also objected to the closure.
Essex County Council has asked the town council to withdraw its objection to the closure, saying the path was included on its definitive map as a public right of way by mistake in 1960, and should now be removed.
But town councillors have vowed to continue the fight to keep it open.
Jack Robertson said: “Everyone who objected originally still objects. Nothing has changed and that path should remain a public right of way.”
