Frinton: Tennis club bid for year-round all weather dome
9:00am Thursday 14th February 2013 in News
FRINTON tennis club has launched a bid to have its all-weather dome up all year round.
The club is looking to safeguard any tournaments run there against the unpredictable weather.
At the moment the club is only allowed to have the dome up between the beginning of October and the end of March, but has submitted a pre-application to extend that.
Club chairman Roger Evans said: “We don’t necessarily want to have the dome up all year round, but we do want that extra flexibility.
“If we have another summer like last year we would like to be able to carry on despite the awful weather.
“The tournaments we run here are such a valuable revenue stream for us so it is important for us to be able to keep them going where possible.”
The pre-application was discussed by Frinton and Walton Town Council.
Some members were against the extension due to the affect it would have on residents in the surrounding houses, while others said it was vital to support the club.
A compromise was suggested and the council voted against allowing the dome all year.
But they voted in favour of allowing an extension, preferably to eight months and absolutely no longer than nine months of the year.
Tennis club spokesman Mr Evans said he was happy with the alterations suggested.
