Clacton: Asthmatic runner takes on marathon for charity
7:30am Thursday 14th February 2013 in News
AN asthmatic runner will take on the London Marathon in a bid to help other sufferers.
Barry Joyce, of Peter Bruff Avenue in Clacton, is set to take on the 26-mile slog around London in April.
His son also suffers from the condition, and Barry signed up for the marathon to boost charity Asthma UK.
He said: “My condition was pretty severe when I was younger and it really affected what I was able to do.
“My eight year-old son Robbie still suffers from it badly too.
“Thanks to the strides made with medicine I’m able to manage it well and it doesn’t affect me as much as it used to, so hopefully I won’t be at too much risk by taking on a marathon.
“I really want to work alongside the charity and help get them a bit more funding and recognition.
“I’m excited and nervous all at once. It’s a big challenge and a bit daunting, but I’m really looking forward to it."
So far Barry has raised £670 towards his £2,500 goal.
