THE search is still on for a main charity to benefit from this summer’s Clacton Carnival procession.
Last year more than £10,200 was raised by the town’s carnival and more than £2,000 was handed to the two main charities.
Carnival spokesman Nicky Freeman said it is not too late for charities to apply.
“Clacton Carnival Association is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and the carnival committee are still looking for a Clacton-based charity or organisation, which needs funds of up to £4,000 for a project which will directly benefit people locally.
“Last year cheques for £2012 were given to the Tendring District Scouts to help equip their new district HQ in Valley Road and the Friends of the West Cliff Theatre, who needed funds to refurbish the seats in the theatre.”
The carnival procession takes place on August 10 and marks the start of a week of events.
For details of how to apply to become the main charity go to clactoncarnival.org.uk or call 01255 422179. Applications must be in by February 20.
