County Hall budget vote delayed

A COUNCIL meeting has been postponed because of a delay in government figures.

Members of Essex County Council were due to meet on today to vote on the authority’s budget for the coming financial year.

But the meeting has been put back two weeks as the county council is still waiting for final confirmation from the government about the level of funding it will receive.

The information is due to be released next week, and officers need time to analyse the data and feed it into the draft budget, which was approved by senior councillors last Tuesday.

Council leader Peter Martin said: “This is a hugely complicated issue and one which has a vast impact on the council and our residents. It is vital that any decision we take is made on as much information as we can possibly have.”
