Frinton: County councillor hits back over town council claims

A COUNTY councillor has hit back at claims he is out of touch with the people.

Concerns were raised at Frinton and Walton Town Council over the effectiveness of councillor Mick Page, who represents the area at County Hall.

The main concern of several councillors is that Mr Page will not attend town council meetings.

Brian Johnson said: “Not once has he been here. He’s meant to be looking out for the people but we never know what he’s doing.

“We have invited him here several times but he doesn’t come.

“We are the eyes and ears in our towns and villages and I don’t think he has a clue what is going on with the local people.”

Delyth Miles said Mr Page had been very successful in securing cash for the area, but said she was frustrated at the lack of contact with him.

She suggested the council write to Essex County Council and ask for a new point of contact.

But Mr Page has hit back at the town council, saying he just wants to help the people and not get embroiled in politics.

He said: “If their attitudes changed and it was less hostile there I would go.

“I take my role very seriously but I have no interest in being involved in the politics of that chamber.

“I fulfil my obligations to the people of Frinton and Walton and hold regular surgeries every month.

“People can get hold of me if they want to and I always help them in my role as councillor if I can.

“The residents voted me in and I work for them, not the town council.”
