Pensioner Reg in abseil plunge... at 80!
9:34am Friday 25th January 2013 in News
YOU'RE never too old for a bit of thrill-seeking - just asked 80-year-old daredevil Reginald Richer.
The Great Bentley pensioner is marking his 80th birthday by abseiling from the heady heights of Colchester Town Hall this Sunday.
He will be joined by sons Christopher and Phillip, and grandchildren Laura and Daniel, for the eye-popping challenge.
The family hopes to raise more than £250 for the Stroke Association.
Reginald said: "“When I saw the Stroke Association was holding a fundraising abseil on my 80th birthday, I thought it would be an ideal way to celebrate becoming an octogenarian.
"I was delighted when my family said they’d join me in the challenge.
"The work the Stroke Association does is so important, and I hope our fundraising makes a difference.”
Colchester mayor Christopher Arnold is also taking part in the event, known as the Shop and Drop Abseil.
People are urged to buy some bargains in the town and then descend down the town hall.
