Clacton Airshow take off confirmed

IT has been confirmed that Clacton Airshow will take place this year.

Tendring Council moved to confirm the spectacular show would go ahead on August 22 and 23 this year.

The council was flooded with enquiries about the show after Southend Airshow was axed as part of drastic cost-cutting measures.

Alan Goggin, Tendring Council tourism boss said: “It is fair to say that due to the position that local authorities find themselves in and the very difficult financial times ahead we did have to look seriously at whether we could afford to stage an annual air show ourselves in its current format.

“We also commissioned a report to find out just how much it is worth to the local economy and discovered it brings in an extra £4million over the two days.

“It is therefore incredibly important to the District as a whole and we have strived to find ways of reducing costs, increasing revenue and running the event as near to break even as possible.”

Mr Goggin also said he expects at least 10,000 extra flight fans to attend the Clacton event this year due to the demise of the Southend show.

He added: “This is a real opportunity for us and it could be our biggest show yet.”
