Search is on for Clacton carnival charity

THE search is on for a Clacton charity to be the beneficiary of up to £4,000 from this year’s carnival.

Clacton Carnival Committee is busy planning for this year’s fun-packed Carnival Week, which is set to take place from August 10 to 16.

Last year, cheques for £2012 were handed to Tendring Scouts to help equip their new district headquarters in Valley Road and the Friends of the West Cliff Theatre, who needed funds to refurbish seats in the theatre.

Nicky Freeman, from the association, said: “We are now looking for a Clacton-based charity or organisation, which is needing funds of up to £4,000 for a project which will directly benefit people locally.

“They will be the main charity for the carnival procession which will now be back at the beginning of Carnival Week on August 10.

“In the past few years, the carnival committee have supported many other local groups with monies from the procession, including Clacton and District Occupational Workshop, the RNLI, St Helena Hospice’s Tendring Day Centre and Clacton Maternity Unit, to name but a few.”

This year’s carnival gets underway with a quiz night, run by Clacton quizmaster Adrian Robinson, on February 15, at St James’ Church Hall.

The quiz will raise funds for the dresses for this year’s new carnival queen and princesses, who will be chosen later in the spring.

For full details of how to be considered for the main charity, for which applications must be made by February 20, go to clactoncarnival.org.uk.
