Tendring: New council housing set to be built
12:00pm Sunday 13th January 2013 in News
THE first step in a scheme to boost council housing stocks in Tendring is about to get underway.
A £3million cashpot was put aside by Tendring Council last year and will be used to purchase homes or build new houses.
Planning permission has now been granted for the council to build two new homes in Brightlingsea as the first step in the project.
Council housing boss Paul Honeywood said: “Following my announcement last year that we are looking to start building and buying new council homes I am delighted to say that the programme is well underway.
“We have now obtained planning permission to build a three-bedroom town house and a two-bedroom detached house, both with gardens, in Brightlingsea."
As well as the Brightlingsea project, plans are being drawn up for three new flats and four new bungalows at another council-owned site.
Negotiations are also underway to purchase six other properties in Tendring which owners have struggled to sell due to the current market conditions.
