Artist Paul Allan-Smith gains inspiration from light

A FREE exhibition of watercolours by Great Holland artist Paul Allan-Smith is being featured at Clacton's West Cliff Theatre.

Paul grew up in Great Holland and resurrected his interest in drawing, sketching and painting when he returned to the village, working mainly in watercolours.

"My approach is to explore and express images that reflect the way light interacts within the wider landscape, whether it is the seaside, buildings or animals and to capture that atmosphere that is all too fleeting," he explained.

"When looking for inspiration I go out in the early morning or dusk with my camera and sketchbook and try to identify interesting subjects and compositions."

The exhibition runs until the end of January at the theatre.
