Modest Carswell 'deeply flattered'... and says Government needs a 'good kicking'

CLACTON MP Douglas Carswell has been listed as the second most influential Tory backbencher.

The Conservative MP was praised this week by political blog The Backbencher.

It says Mr Carswell is one of five politicians it will be keeping tabs on in 2013 and described him as a “real mover and shaker”.

It said: “Expect Carswell to make strides in shaping Tory thinking this year, one of the party’s brightest and able minds has a talent for backing up his strong words with direct actions.”

Mr Carswell said: “I am deeply flattered, but what is more important to me is not what a blog site says, but what local people think.

“I’m not sure I would described myself as a ‘mover and shaker’, but I do like to stick up to Westminster.

“I do think this Government needs not just sticking up to, but a good kicking.”
