Double delight for Duke of Edinburgh Award twins
5:00pm Saturday 5th January 2013 in News
THERE was double delight for twins Hannah and Kirsty Adams as they celebrated getting their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards at a right royal occasion at St James' Palace.
The 21-year-olds were thrilled after speaking with Prince Philip at the ceremony.
And there was more excitement when they were presented with their certificates by former Olympic medal-winning athlete Phil Brown.
Kirsty and Hannah are both advance young leaders in the 1st Clacton Girls’ Brigade company.
They successfully completed the award’s five sections which included an expedition in Devon, helping to run the company, cake decorating and water polo.
Kirsty works at Essex Police’s call centre while Hannah is a holiday camp lifeguard in St Osyth.
The twins, of Park Road, Clacton, also spent five days on a barge with an adventure holiday for special needs adults.
Girls' Brigade captain Gill Stennings said: "They have shown true commitment and determination in gaining these awards and it will undoubtedly stand them in good stead for their futures."
