A CHARITY which helps the victims of domestic violence is appealing for help to make Christmas special.
The Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge has launched a campaign called the Giving Tree.
Those taking part are asked to donate a new present to the refuge.
These will then be sold to women in the refuge at a quarter of the price.
Julie Clifford, outreach services manager, said the campaign aimed to help women who had been subjected to domestic violence in a number of ways.
“Women who have been forced to flee a violent relationship are in the process of rebuilding their lives.
“As well as coping with the devastating effects of leaving their home and resettling in a new community, women are managing on limited budgets and struggle to make ends meet.
“Christmas can be a stressful time which is filled with worry as mothers try to ensure their children enjoy the festivities and are not left with nothing to open on Christmas Day.”
Julie said by selling the presents on at a reduced price, it allowed the women to chose a present for their children but at a price they could afford.
The money raised will used to support the refuge’s on-going work and fund support programmes.
Anyone wanting to donate a gift to the scheme can call 01206 867120 for more details.
