THE number of residents joining Tendring’s dole queues has risen for the third month running.
Figures show there were 3,312 people out of work and claiming benefits last month, up from 3,275 in October.
But the Office for National Statistics’ figures show there are 396 more people in employment compared with this time last year.
The number of vacancies at Tendring’s Jobcentres has fallen to 501 from 487 the month before.
It means there are more than six people chasing each job.
The figures also show the number of 18 to 24-year-olds claiming benefits has risen to 9.6 per cent.
More than 3.9 per cent of Tendring’s working-age population is now on benefits – just above the national average of 3.8 per cent.
In Colchester, just 3,100 people, 2.5 per cent, are out of work.
