A SHOPPING centre will be lit up by festive lights after town councillors agreed to donate Christmas light cash.
The Triangle Shopping Centre was handed £500 by the council to boost its festive display.
Last year the centre was left looking bleak after East of England Co-operative Society bosses, who own the centre, said there was no cash for decorations.
But this year traders have formed an association to boost the Triangle, and have been working with Co-op bosses to put on an impressive Christmas display.
Deputy mayor Iris Johnson asked councillors to consider making the donation.
She said: “Our traders have been doing their best in difficult times.
“Everyone missed the Christmas display at the Triangle last year, but the shopkeepers have been working so hard to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
“I think we should do our bit to help them.”
Sue Igle from Hallmark represented the Triangle Traders Association at the town council meeting.
She said: “We were absolutely elated with the decision, and they were unanimous in wanting to help us."
