A CARE home held a special awards party for its volunteers to hail the impact the “unsung heroes” have.

Corner Lodge care home in Jaywick launched the event for its eight volunteers last week.

They do anything from playing the piano, playing games and chatting to the residents.

Carers say the job they do is “incredible”, and wanted to recognise the impact they have to Corner Lodge residents.

Debbie Collins from the home said: “We organised the event to say thank you for all the hard work they do.

“I can’t tell you how important they are, and have an incredible effect on boosting the quality of life of the people living here.

“They often do not get the recognition they deserve but we can’t praise them enough. They are our unsung heroes.

“We gave them an award each and they were all over the moon.”

Anyone interested in stepping forward to become a volunteer at Corner Lodge can call the home on 01255 220228.
