Star actress from James Bond film Skyfall backs book on Walton hero

A STAR from new James Bond film Skyfall has contributed the foreword to a book written to commemorate a Walton hero.

The book ‘Herbert Columbine, V.C’ has been written by author Carole McEntee-Taylor.

It tells the tale of Private Herbert Columbine, a soldier from Walton who died during the First World War.

He held off waves of enemy attacks single-handedly to allow his fellow soldiers to escape, and was posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross medal for his bravery.

Skyfall star Dame Judi Dench was touched by the tale, and has contributed the foreword to the book.

She also donated £500 towards the statue.

The idea for the book came from campaigner Mike Turner, who has been raising money for a statue of Private Columbine in Walton.

He said: “It is fantastic for us to see the book written, and it will all help get the statue built.

“We will be getting royalties from the book which will go towards the statue fund."

The statue of Herbert Columbine will cost about £50,000.
