A SHOTGUN killer's dad has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for helping his son evade police.

Michael Bulat, 61, moved a van son Darren Jewell had used in the murder of Anthony Prickett and lied to police officers.

It gave Jewell, of John Street, Brightlingsea, time to escape.

Bulat, of Beaumont Close, Walton, claimed he had no idea what his son had done.

But it took the jury at Chelmsford Crown Court 20 minutes to return a unanimous guilty verdict.

Not to hard to spot with the hideous tattoo and holes in his ears! How old does he think he is, 17?

Do not go by looks alone, would you say that to his face??

Typical "clactonite" thinking. Narrow minded comments based on appearance. Clacton man is right. I'm not saying that what he did was the correct thing to do by any means, not at all.
its narrow minded people like you all that make "London on sea" the place it is today...
We with mass tattoos and flesh tunnels are not all murderous. Some of us are particularly pleasant and probably care for your grand parents, serve you politely in shops, handle your calls politely, We don't look at you and think, ugly, MUST be a criminal.

I grew up with the guy. A most unpleasant person. A bully and a thug. Unless he reformed over the years, it appears he has reverted to type.

if he was always a bully and a thug he didn't need to revert anywhere.i never new the bloke but i think his skin would do for lamp shades.

well then wellnow if you never knew the man how can you make a judgement? Some of the nicest looking people are really nasty, vindictive and violent while many of those that appear ugly, tattooed, with piercings etc are the nicest and most helpful people you could wish to meet.

This country is too focussed on making judgements by appearance only.

Cavillas, sadly that is so true.

Tried to help his KILLER son but is great guy! You must be joking, If I was a killer I would expect my dad to hand me in, not try to hide me.

I made no judgement on the man other than I don't like his tattoos. However, from the comments he seems like a very unsavory character!

And there was Jimmy Saville a respectable looking guy, they even made him a Sir and he had the whole nation fooled, maybe people with tattoos are more honest, what you see is what you get I wear mine with pride.

Knowing this 'man' and family i agree with sdapeze he is a thug and he has freely used his fists, bullied family, friends and colleagues never mind people who have crossed him It has nothing to do with his looks as I have great friends with tattoos

Thankfully, old Mr Bulat never got to see how his son turned out. He was a lovely man.

quite sad really. As a parent how do you ever know what the right thing to do is - perhaps he didn't want to believe that his son could do such a thing? I'm not saying it was right to cover up for him or help him but he was being a protective dad and no it wasn't the right thing to do to let him get away but maybe he just felt at a complete loss. His family will suffer as a result of this. I feel very sad for all that have been affected by the incorrect actions of others.
