Clacton promenade set for facelift

WORKS are underway to give Clacton a facelift for the next summer season.

Tendring Council said it will now continue with a number of schemes to improve the resort’s seafront area.

Reclaimed brick slag from Walton beach will be used to screen steel straps used support Clacton’s Lower Promenade wall.

It is hoped the project will maintain the area’s Victorian character and save a considerable amount of money on the materials.

Drainage works will also take place in the area to solve problems with ground water. Paths either side of the repaired will also be resurfaced and widened.

Pam Sambridge, cabinet member for technical services, said: “The aim is to smarten the seafront up in readiness for next year and this work has to be carried out once the summer is over so as not to interfere with our busiest periods.

“Residents using the Lower Promenade will see quite a bit of work going on over the coming weeks.

“It is a busy period on various sections of Clacton seafront and we are looking forward to the finished effect creating a better impression in what is one of our prime visitor areas.”

A small part of the promenade will be closed for about a month while the project is carried out.
