Bereavement charity handed £4,000

A CHARITY which supports the bereaved across north Essex has been handed a £4,000 cash boost.
The money has come from recycling metals from crematoria throughout the country over the past year.
Staff at Tendring Council’s Weeley Crematorium decided to nominate Colchester’s Cruse Bereavement Care for its share of the windfall.
Each year the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management – which receives the proceeds nationwide – hands out the money to chosen charities.
In the past Weeley Crematorium has supported East Anglia Children’s Hospice and St Helena Hospice.
Carole Ashton, chairman of Colchester Cruse, said: “It is the largest single donation we have ever received and it comes at a time when it is increasingly difficult to raise funds so we are hugely grateful.
“It will enable us to train up further Cruse volunteers to help support locally bereaved people.”
Nick Turner, cabinet member for the environment, said: “I am sure that Cruse will put the cheque to very good use to help support bereaved people in the Colchester and Tendring areas.”
