Walton lifeguard is best in the country

A WALTON lifesaver blew the competition out of the water to be named best lifeguard in the country.
The lifeguards from Frinton and Walton competed against other teams of lifesavers from all over the UK.
As part of the annual contest 224 lifeguards competed in a variety of events, including swimming races and resuscitation tests.
Walton-based water-whizz James Whitfield beat out the competition to claim the top prize of best lifeguard.
The Walton team of five also came third out of 38 team entries.
The pool is run by Tendring Council, and cabinet spokesman Stephen Mayzes said: “This just goes to show that in Tendring – as we have always known – we have some of the very best lifeguards in the country.
“I would like to congratulate all those who did so well in their competition and praise them for their efforts and dedication.”
The competition is run every year by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
Along with overall winner James, the Walton team was made up of Glen Allston, Dave Quinney, Elizabeth White and Raine Adams.
