Phone-scam target warns other Clacton residents
1:34pm Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News
A PHONE-SCAM target has warned other residents in Clacton to be cautious with their details.
Winston D’Costa received a call from someone claiming to be from a Government department saying he was entitled to a £5,000 rebate.
He was asked to give his details, but refused.
Mr D’Costa said: “I got a phone call from someone saying they were from the Department for Work and Pensions.
“They asked me to give my details so they could give me the money I was entitled to, but I said no.
“I never give anything out like that over the phone.
“I knew they were trying to scam me and want to make sure they don’t catch anyone out around here.
“Afterwards I phoned the actual Department for Work and Pensions. They said they would never ring someone like that and I did the right thing.”
