Flying start for golfers
Clacton Golf Club got their season off to a flying start with successful first-round matches in the Leslie Wood and Thornton Cup county matchplay competitions.

The afternoon brought a 5-4 result and a 8-6 victory.
The next round of the Leslie Wood is an away draw against Ilford on Sunday, May 18 which promises to be a tough encounter.
The Thornton Cup squad gained a resounding victory at Top Meadow.
A 3-2 lead after the morning foursomes and an 8-2 victory in the afternoon singles resulted in a convincing 11-3 scoreline.
Clacton have a home draw against Chelmsford in the next round on Sunday, June 1.
Clacton's team squads are a mixture of mature, experienced and junior golfers, which bodes well for the future of the club.
