Alison Hammond has signed up to this year's Strictly Come Dancing, according to reports..

The presenter on ITV's This Morning is joining the BBC's celebrity dance contest as part of the competitor line-up for the September launch of the show, says The Sun.

Strictly producers are said to be keen to bring in Alison's big personality and mischievous sense of humour, which they think will win over viewers.

A source said: "She was genuinely delighted to be asked to join. She could be one of this year's big surprises."

Alison's This Morning co-star Richard Arnold took part in 2012 and the source said that he had encouraged her: "Alison has always loved Strictly, but she never thought it was a possibility until she saw Lisa Riley do so well.

"The fact Richard loved it too made it even more appealing. So she jumped at the chance this year."

Alison rose to fame on TV as a Big Brother contestant in 2002 and has since appeared in Loose Women, Celebrity Fit Club, I'm A Celebrity and Celebrity MasterChef.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We don't comment on speculation."
