CARNIVAL bosses in Clacton have unveiled this year's programme of event at the summer spectacular.

Carnival week kicks off on Saturday, August 12, at 6pm with the traditional seafront procession from West Road to Victoria Road.

Sunday sees a car boot sale at Alton Park Junior School from 1pm, followed by the donkey derby at Alton park on the Monday at 6pm.

On the Tuesday, the fun heads to the West Beach where there is a sandcastle competition from 10.30am and an egg-throwing competition at 7pm, followed by a beer dig.

Carnival adventure golf is a new attraction on the Martello Bay greensward from 9am on the Wednesday.

The carnival fete - featuring live music - is at Alton Park School on the Thursday from 5pm, while Friday sees the children's fancy dress competition at St. James’ Church Hall, Tower Road, at 2.30pm, followed by a fun quiz night at the same venue from 8pm.

The curtain comes down on the carnival spectacular with the half marathon and fun run, starting from the Eastcliff greensward on Sunday at 9.30am.

Spokesman Nicky Freeman said: "The main beneficiary is the Hospital Hopper Minibus which is a vital link for those people who find it difficult to get to hospital appointments using public transport.

"This is a very worthy cause which has a direct impact on many local people’s lives and we are sure it will be well supported by the public.

"We also aim to give donations to many other organisations who help us run Carnival Week."
