ALMOST 300 children will perform songs from all over the world at a special concert in Clacton next week.

The shows feature music from the mountains of Nepal to the deserts of the Middle East and the sun-kissed islands of the Caribbean, along with the valleys of Wales and the highlands of Scotland.

Youngsters from 11 primary schools across Tendring will perform the songs in their original languages, including Welsh, Arabic, Swahili and Nepalese.

Choirmaster Peter Thorne says the concert has been a huge undertaking.

“The children have risen to this challenge and responded magnificently to produce an exciting and varied concert to entertain and delight,” he said.

The schools taking part include Alton Park Junior, Holland Haven Primary, Great Clacton Junior, St Osyth Primary, St Claire’s Primary, Mistley Norman, Primary, Whitehall Academy, Burrsville Infant, Rolph Primary, Cann Hall Primary and Holland Park.

Tendring Council culture boss Tanya Ferguson is delighted the Princes Theatre is hosting the concerts.

“All the staff and children have worked so hard to make this event very special and I’m sure it will be enjoyed by all,” she said.

Shows are on Wednesday and Thursday at 6pm.

Tickets are £5 or four for £15 from princestheatre.co.uk or the box office on 01255 686633.
