A free recruitment event in Basildon is part of a campaign to help job seekers find new careers in the care sector.

With hundreds of vacancies each month, apprenticeships, training and a choice of roles in front-line, back office, management or specialist services, the care sector offers rewarding opportunities.

Essex County Council has launched the Gift of Care campaign to help the sector recruit and train more local people into roles in their communities.

People starting their careers, looking to change or looking for additional or part-time work can attend to see if they can give the gift of care this Christmas.

The first event took place in Chelmsford last week while the Basildon event is taking place on Tuesday, December 6.

More are planned for the New Year.

Councillor Dick Madden, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Children/ said: “Caring for others is one of the most important and rewarding things you can do and there are hundreds of people across the county – maybe even in your own family - needing help in their daily lives or specialist support.”

More than 25 care providers will be represented at the events to talk to job seekers about their current vacancies, the qualities they are looking for in candidates and the benefits and rewards to be had.

Job seekers can also find out about apprenticeships and training, take part in informal interviews and receive one to one support.

The event is taking place at St Georges Suite, The Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Place, Basildon SS14 1DL. The event runs between 11am and 1.30pm.
