A MAN has hit out at Clacton hospital after his partner’s vital physio sessions were cancelled.

Debra Foster has been wheelchair bound since 2011, after having life-saving kidney and pancreas transplants.

She has recovered gradually but is still a long way from being back on her feet.

Last year she was told by doctors to take part in physio sessions once a week at Clacton hospital to boost her recovery.

But Debra has now been told she can no longer take part in the sessions.

A transport which used to arrive to ferry them to and from the hospital has stopped turning up to get Debra to the Wednesday sessions.

Her partner Tony Smeeton has criticised the hospital for the move.

He said: “They didn’t give us a good reason for it at all, just said there wasn’t room for Debra on that course anymore.

“I can’t believe they would take it away from her like this. It is disgraceful.”

Tony and Debra were informed of the decision five weeks ago.

They were told information would be sent out to them to help them find alternative public sessions to help Debra, but nothing has arrived yet.

Rebekah Anokhina, interim service manager for Anglian Community Enterprise said: “We are not permitted to comment on an individual’s care programme.

“If the patient wishes to contact me, I would be very happy to discuss any concerns she may have and reassure her of our commitment to providing first-rate physiotherapy services across Tendring to anybody needing them.”
