A JURY is today due to hear the first witnesses called to give evidence in the trial of a youth accused of murdering a Clacton student.
Jay Whiston, 17, died after he was stabbed outside a party in Colchester following a row with another group of youths on September 8, 2012.
Edward Redman, 18, from Colchester, denies murder.
He told police he had been at the party but was not armed with a knife that night and did not stab Jay.
Chelmsford Crown Court has heard Redman and his group were slightly older than many of the 100-plus people there and had been drinking earlier in the evening.
The trial jury visited the scene of the alleged murder on Thursday and where shown the area where Jay was stabbed.
The timing of the visit allowed jurors to see the area in daylight as well as when it got dark as that was when the alleged murder took place.
The trial did not sit on Friday but is due to resume today with the prosecution calling the first of their witnesses.
